Toyota Land Cruiser still the Nations's best at 60

The Toyota Land Cruiser has rounded off its 60th anniversary in style by being declared the year’s top performer in terms of residual value. Glass’s Guide has calculated Toyota’s mighty SUV has held its worth better than any other UK model in 2011, revealing that a 2008 (57 plate) 3.0-litre D-4D Invincible automatic can still command 72.2 per cent of its original on-the-road price.

The top 10 compiled for the year-end would also have included several other Land Cruiser models, had the list not been limited to the highest-ranked example from each model range.

Adrian Rushmore managing editor of Glass’s Guide, said: “The Toyota Land Cruiser has never been a victim of distress marketing by the manufacturer and this has ensured used examples have been in very limited supply. It enjoys the credentials of being a durable and reliable workhorse, an image that has endured for many years.”

Land Cruiser has forged its reputation for exceptional strength and lasting quality in the world’s toughest environments. The latest versions of the model remains true to the rugged principles that defined its earliest “ancestors”, while making full use of advanced technologies to deliver even better off-road performance, safety and handling.

The time - and temperatures - are right for a Toyota tyre change

The weather maps are changing to hues of blue as the onset of winter makes itself felt. With icy roads and snow storms now part of the UK weather pattern, drivers have a timely reminder of the value of switching their Toyota to tyres that are designed to cope better with tough conditions.

Toyota’s winter tyre programme helps drivers improve the safety and handling performance of their vehicle by using products that are specifically designed to perform consistently well in lower temperatures. They are made from a different rubber compound than conventional tyres, which gives better grip and shorter braking distances once the mercury falls below 7°C.

Winter tyres are available for almost all Toyota and Lexus models, including hybrids and some past models including the previous-generation Yaris and Prius, which means it is not too late for motorists to make the switch and enjoy safer motoring. The safety message is reinforced by the British Tyre Manufacturers Association, which has produced test results showing that stopping distances from 20mph can be cut by 11 metres on an icy road, and 18 metres on a snowy surface.

Most of Toyota’s winter tyres are manufactured by Yokohama, a company with a worldwide reputation for high quality products. Yokohama carries out extensive research and development into tyre technology to ensure the best possible performance, including operating its own winter test facility, T*MARY, in Japan.

Toyota Centres will supply competitively priced tyres and carry out the change-over process. Owners can also arrange for their standard tyres to be stored by their local centre until they are ready to be refitted in the spring.

Toyota’s commitment to promoting the benefits of winter tyres as well as the importance of general issues such as tread wear, correct pressures and damage, is reflected in its membership of Tyresafe, one of the UK’s leading organisations promoting tyre safety and awareness.

Toyota focuses on the future at Tokyo 2011

FT-EV-III

  • World premiere of Fun-Vii (Fun Vehicle interactive internet) concept
  • World premiere of the FCV-R (Fuel Cell Vehicle – Reality & Revolution) concept
  • World premiere of the FT-EV III (Future Toyota – Electric Vehicle III) concept

Toyota is using the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show to reinforce its position as an environmental technology leader with three concept cars, one near future, one mid term and one way out there.

Near Future…

Based on the Toyota iQ, the FT-EV III (Future Toyota – Electric Vehicle III) is a 4-seater electric vehicle concept suitable for short-distance trips.

Toyota is developing EV technology with the aim of launching a vehicle suitable for short-distance travel in 2012. Equipped with a lithium-ion battery, the FT-EV III achieves an estimated cruising range of 65 miles on a fully charged battery (under the Japanese JC08 test cycle).

...mid term…

The FCV-R (Fuel Cell Vehicle – Reality & Revolution) concept, measuring 4.7 metres in length, is a practical, family sized vehicle fuelled by hydrogen. This concept model represents the next step towards the commercial launch of a Toyota fuel cell vehicle by 2015.

With the fuel-cell unit located beneath the specially designed bodyshell, the vehicle can accommodate up to four passengers and boasts impressive luggage space. The fuel cell stack, with a 70 MPa high-pressure hydrogen tank, has been improved to provide a cruising distance of approximately 430 miles (under the Japanese JC08 test cycle).

… and far out!

The Toyota Fun-Vii ( Fun-Vehicle interactive internet) concept heralds Toyota’s vision of a future where people, cars and society are linked.
